Hi, I'm DR Karis Moxley

I have found deep purpose in helping researchers bring clarity to complexity, both in their writing and in the way they think about their work.

Somewhere between running experiments and navigating the highs and lows of a PhD in molecular biology, I began working as an academic writing consultant. That marked the start of my journey into academic support and a growing passion for helping researchers communicate their work with clarity and confidence.

Over the years, I’ve supported many postgraduate students, particularly in medicine and science, through research workshops, proposal and publication writing, and one-on-one consultations. I also hold a Master’s in Health Professions Education and spent several years leading research support initiatives at South African universities.

Today, I bring together my background in scientific research, academic teaching, and professional medical writing to help researchers flourish. Whether you’re overwhelmed by the demands of your project, refining a publication, or trying to find your academic voice, I’m here to guide the way.

Hi, I'm Dr. Karis Moxley

I have always known that I wanted to be a writer and work with language and texts.

Although I planned to study English after school, life took me on an unexpected journey into the sciences. While running experiments for my Ph.D. in molecular biology, I began editing fellow scientists’ writing to pass the time. It was during that period that I also started working as a writing consultant at the University of Cape Town’s Writing Centre.

After I graduated in 2017, I worked in academic research support at Stellenbosch University, mostly teaching proposal and publication writing and assisting Master of Medicine candidates with their research.

To enable this work, I completed a Master of Philosophy in Health Professions Education in 2021. I really enjoy facilitating writing and research workshops and developing online course material for topics in medicine and science.

I recently transitioned out of academia and now work as a medical writer for an international company. I started this business as an outlet for my love of teaching and academic research. It brings me much joy to help academics flourish!
